It’s A Bird! It’s A Plane!

A family looks up at the Eiffel Tower. Most of a family, at any rate.

At the far end of Champs de Mars, across the street from École Militaire, there is a simple pavilion with “peace” etched into its glass walls in various languages.

A quirky cafe we randomly dropped into to enjoy some espresso. (Well, drink some espresso and try not to make faces.)


This was my favorite area in Versailles’ Palace. The whole place spews grandiosity; this part, despite being built with what would likely be considered luxury finishes during the time it was built, is relatively simple and understated. It reminds me of the fantastic foyer and floor in the finished house from the movie The Money Pit.

Suffice it to say, I didn’t spontaneously decide to run in a perfectly straight line across Grant and Millennium Parks. Here’s the run I actually did:

Update: Same run, different day, worse result. Much worse. This time, I apparently decided to change course and run into the lake for a quick dip, then curve around through buildings until I ended up two blocks west of my building. Yep.

A fence in Paris that was more decorated than it otherwise should have been. Nice touch, fence decorator.
